What lean ops teams actually need
Lean ops teams usually have three requirements: fast setup, low training overhead, and enough flexibility to model workflows that don't fit a template. Monday's board-plus-automation model is the closest fit for that combo. The visual boards make status obvious, the automation recipes cover 80% of the common patterns without code, and non-technical staff pick it up in a week.
Where Asana shines
Asana is calmer and more opinionated. If your team's core job is "get things done on time and don't drop the ball," Asana wins. It is less useful when you need workflow logic that branches, or when you want to hand a client a dashboard.
The ClickUp caution
ClickUp packs more features than Monday and Asana combined. That is its blessing and its curse. Every ClickUp implementation I have seen either becomes one person's obsession or fizzles because nobody else could learn it fast enough. Only pick ClickUp if you have the internal patience to actually train the team.
